Dweller on the Threshold:
Durer's Dream
EPK
Dweller on the Threshold is Ben Miller’s most ambitious jazz project to date — a body of work forged in the pressure of alchemical struggle. It’s music written from inside the fight: wrestling with skepticism, confronting shadow, and pushing through the thresholds that separate collapse from renewal. The pieces don’t gesture toward those experiences — they come straight out of them.
The project unfolds across varied orchestrational landscapes and ensemble shapes, expanding and contracting depending on what the moment demands. Some works surge with dense, layered power while others strip down to reveal what’s brittle, uncertain, or newly forming. Drawing from a broad pool of musicians, drawn from Rochester’s community and across the world, freedom gives the project its shifting voice and its sense of lived intensity.

Produced by Ben Miller at Third Motion Studios, Dweller on the Threshold treats jazz as a field where spiritual pressure, emotional truth, and high-level craft collide. It is a project born from real transformation, carried by an ensemble capable of meeting its demands, and shaped by the sense that crossing a threshold changes the sound of everything on the other side.

Durer's Dream:
an inner world revealed

TJPL NEWS (UK):

Nestled among experimental and chamber jazz pieces is Fragmented Reality, a classical suite tracing the stages of Miller’s battle against doubt and skepticism — not as abstraction, but as a series of real alchemical trials. This expositions sits within the larger project as one vantage point, a chapter inside a wider journey.

JAZZ IN FAMILY (ITALY):
More Press
"Fraught and transcendent, signaling a musician who has scrutinized the language of jazz and also imparted to it layers of meaning culled from gnostic and esoteric thought."
"Ben Miller’s impending album is a tapestry of sounds of the instruments from the Middle Ages. The theme of this creative evokes the most inquisitive work, Melencolia, by 15th-century German Renaissance artist Albrecht Dürer."
"Ben Miller shares mystical, transcendent, and psychedelic introduction to his project Dweller on the Threshold with new composition, Dürer’s Dream"
"With “Dürer’s Dream”, Ben Miller doesn’t just give us a song—he opens a door into another world, one where jazz, classical, and cinematic soundscapes swirl together like colours in a watercolour painting."
"A fusing of classical elegance and avant-garde jazz intrigue, “Durer’s Dream” is a gorgeous new track from Ben Miller, a jazz pianist based in Rochester, NY."
"Uplifting, profound, and satisfying."
